BIO OF KARL KING

KARL KING’s musical career has taken him through the worlds of rock music, classical, opera, and more, yet his greatest passion is for the classic American songbook of the 1930s through the ‘60s.

His musical career started early. He played guitar at age 10 and was lead singer and drummer for a rock band before he could drive. His father had a radio program in the 1940s, playing such great American crooners as Tony Bennett and Frank Sinatra. This proved to be an early influence on King, along with episodes of the Ed Sullivan Show and the Andy Williams Variety Hour he remembers watching with his father.

Standing over 6 feet tall, Karl King has impressive stage presence even before he sings a note. Blessed with a powerful vocal range, charming personality and easy smile, audiences adore the way King takes them on a journey through the past, remembering old favorites and interpreting beloved tunes with a new style and sophistication.

The way he engages the audience is a hallmark of his performances, as he moves from stage to crowd. He may sing to a certain table, share a story while strolling among the audience, or dance with a young girl, generating gleeful giggles and spontaneous applause.

Off-stage, Karl King is working on a new CD to be released in 2007, with jazzman Reggie Graham as arranger and bandleader. The two have also collaborated on movie scores and performed together throughout northern California.

Karl will be singing at a movie premiere in early 2007 in Hollywood, California, for which he and Reggie Graham co-wrote the musical score.
